Pray for Our Nation - Adopt A Leader Program

I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life…” 1 Timothy 2:1-2

Join with thousands around the nation in this campaign to reclaim our country through prayer. Loneliness and feelings of isolation are common among leaders today. Many of them only hear from people when there is a need or a complaint. This Adopt a Leader campaign is designed to maximize your efforts as you encourage and pray for one of our nation’s leaders.

1) First, choose a leader God lays on your heart. The National Day of Prayer Task Force will not assign you a leader – you get to pick your own! You can adopt a principal, a pastor, a military commander, an anchorman, an executive, a representative or even a family member. Seek the Lord’s direction in choosing a leader.

2) When you’ve made your choice, click here and fill out a profile - only name, state and email are required. This Web site will enable you to enter your adopted leader’s name and comment on your prayer efforts. Your selected person will appear on a national listing of adopted leaders.

3) Contact your leader’s office regularly, without being a bother. As you learn of prayer requests, record them in your prayer journal and share them, as appropriate, with other prayer warriors on this Adopt a Leader Web site. Be sure to record answered prayer as well.

4) Every month, send a note card to your adopted leader, encouraging him or her and reminding them of your prayers. In the Adopt a Leader Kit, you will find note cards - one for every month.

5) This Adopt a Leader campaign makes a great group project. Have your group adopt several leaders and pray for them during regular meetings.

It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God. – George Washington in his first presidential proclamation, October 3, 1789

Adopted Mayor in North Carolina

As part of the National Day of Prayer Adopt a Leader campaign, Mayor Ronnie Wall was selected in our area by Isaac (7 years old) and Devon (5 years old).  We had over 30 community leaders come together and they each had a child or young adult praying for them. The children in our community took it to heart to make a commitment to pray for these leaders over the next year. It was a powerful time as these children reminded all the adults of devotion to the Lord in prayer. The picture below the mayor is an image of the children praying for Pastor George Marti, an EMS worker and a Juvenile Court Counselor. The Adopt a Leader campaign has changed our community. I encourage people in every city throughout every state to become part of this transformational effort.

Thank you - Denise, Burlington, NC

Testimonies

This program has blessed many leaders. Here is what some leaders have said.

"Thank you so much for your wonderful and uplifting note. God is certainly gracious in having others uplift us by prayer and actions. I take comfort in knowing he holds believers in his hands." -- a State Representative

"Thanks so much for the beautiful card. It made my day! I appreciate your kind words and support. And most of all, I appreciate you keeping me in your prayers." -- a Senator.

"When we first went to our capital to kick off 'Adopt-a-Leader,' we had such a varied response. We had some people who were overwhelmed to think that someone would pray for them every day. We also had some who didn't want us to contact them, they didn't care if we prayed for them ... we prayed hardest for them. Then the Speaker of the House had the most wonderful response. Each time he would see me, whether in the Capital or the City, he would ask, "You're still praying, aren't you?" He was so happy to know that in the tough times someone was lifting him up." -- a State Coordinator.
